One Piece will be going on a month-long hiatus to prepare for its Final Saga

Eiichiro Oda just released a message through the official One Piece Twitter account talking about how he will be taking a four-week break from June 27th to July 25th to prepare for the final saga of One Piece and take a general breather. Below is his translated message:

Text Version below:

I’M TAKING A BREAK!

A few months ago, my taletented editors told me something: “Oda-san. This year’s summer’s gonna be rough. For the 25th anniversary, there’s also going to be a **** celebration for the film release. In the manga, the Wano Country arc/saga is also finally ending… right? You said you wanted to travel to Africa to supervise the filming of the Neftlix Live-Action, right? This summer we’ve got **** collaborations **** commercials, **** events… to perpare for all this excitement coming up, what do you think of taking a break?”
And I said: “What? Take a break?! Do you have any idea just how much readers always look forward to Jump every single we- YES PLEASE!!
I wanna go to Africa too~!! Also, I want to fix up the structure for the final part of the story so I can tighten it up as soon as possible~. So ba-si-ca-lly…. Sorry. Allow me to indulge in taking a breather and taking time to prepare!!
(T/N: Literally, Oda says “the final part of the story”. In JP, he uses “最終章”, which is a manga industry term to refer to the final saga/final part of a manga)

At the end of my vacation, a raging OP FESTIVAL will begin!! This break isn’t happening immediately by the way. From today, there are two more chapters coming out (Chapters 1052 and 1053). Then, from Shonen Jump issue 30 to issue 33, there will be four breaks! Please allow me some time to breathe!
(The trip to Africa was cancelled because of corona, RIP)
The return will be on Shonen Jump issue 34 (July 25th)!! Then, please look forward to the release of the new Film “RED” on August 6th!! There’s a cool thing happening in this one. The entire movie production staff absolutely loves Uta-chan lol. Goddamn haha. It’s not like the movie is already complete though. Eventually, I’m sure that everyone will feel the same way!! Please enjoy!
Now, for the prelude to the festival…! Tomorrow. June 8th at 19:00 JST, on the official One Piece YouTube channel, there’ll be lots of surprises!! All this content is just egregious!! haha
I think it’s gonna rock your socks off
Tomorrow’s roadmap:

  1. Gordon’s casting revealed (Big VA)
  2. Uta’s cast revealed (WHO?! WHO IS IT?! Quaking!)
  3. New trailer reveal
  4. Official movie tie-in song reveal (WOAH!! Hurry, I wanna hear it!!)
  5. “UTA PROJECT” reveal (Your jaw’s gonna hit the floor!! Enjoy~)
  6. Poster visual drawn by Odacchi (Drew something pretty cool!! Give it a look)
  7. Announcements corner (It’s that usual stuff, right?)
  8. Latest information about the manga (I’m taking a break, but it’ll be stuff like this
    GIVE IT YOUR REST!! ~Oda

  1. Haha wow..i remember the only other time we had a month long break was for the time skip…a decade ago.
That’s nuts. Well right on though, he’s definitely earned one.
Really pumped for the post arc wrap up, admiral hijinks, lore reveals, setup for the endgame..
I hope this final saga takes 5/6 years though, been reading OP since 2002..2/3 of my entire life haha.

Hope you’re doing well too Artur, really looking forward to future chapter secrets, you’re an integral part of the community.

  2. Holy…feels like ages ago since the series had a break, but Oda deserves it.
Oh man the final saga, I’m feeling so overwhelmed, I always knew it would happen but still to think that OP will end soon. *sniff’

Have fun on your time off Oda! And as always thank you Artur for translating this.

  3. Hmm, since we’re going into the final Saga, I wonder how many arcs there will be. I don’t think it will be two like it has been for the previous three saga because there’s still quite a few plot threads for Oda to resolve. The fate of Sabo, the final stand of the world government, Teach and Shanks, Elbaf, The true origin of devil fruits, the void century, laugh tale, one piece, etc. There’s too much to cram into only two arcs I feel like, but who knows Oda surprises us with how lengthy the second half’s arcs are.

Dressrosa, Whole Cake island, and Wano Country (so far) arcs alone take 326 chapters. It took the first half 15 arcs to get to that same amount. It’s definitely a theme here that the first half has many arcs that are relatively shorter in length, while the second half has less arcs but the arcs that are there being much longer than the norm.

Oh I can’t wait to see the finale!
